marla, what are you hearing? >> reporter: well, jon, to be honest police and neighbors aren't saying very much. i just spoke to one guy who came home, he lives right here at the corner of high and hawthorne at this apartment complex. he came home after a night of working and he was obviously very surprised by what he found, all this police activity here. now, police are calling this crime very serious and rare. they say a woman woke up to find a man inside her apartment about 2:20 this morning. she screamed and called 911. that's when he took off. police say the woman, though, was not hurt. they say she's in her 20s. right now what they're doing is they are investigating how the suspect, how he got inside, if he took anything from her apartment. also the specific circumstances about their initial encounter. when she woke to find him there. in the meantime, he is on the run. >> she's currently safe with police officers unharmed and that's the good news. the best description i have right now is just a male wearing
